The First International
Conference of Messiaen Studies will be held at the University of
Southern Queensland, Toowoomba from March 29 –
April 1, 2008 to
celebrate the centenary of Olivier Messiaen's Birth
Guest speakers will
include Prof.
Graham Hair (Glasgow), Prof. Larry Sitsky (Canberra), Dr Mark
Carroll (Adelaide) and Prof. Marc Battier (Paris).
There will be several concerts
of Messiaen's music, including piano recitals by Michael Kieran-Harvey and Larry Sitsky and an organ recital by
Phillip Gearing.
The conference will be held in
Toowoomba, Australia - in the mountains one and a half hours west of
Brisbane. Toowoomba is a picturesque historic town with beautiful
views, less than two hours drive from the Gold Coast.

Call for papers for inclusion
within the following Sessions:
(1) Messiaen in Australia,
(2) Messiaen's musical
language,
(3) Messiaen and spirituality
(4) Other (ornithology,
technology, biography etc.)
The papers should be 20 minutes
in length and formatted for inclusion within conference proceedings.
The conference panel will select papers for possible further
publication in the form of an edited book to be compiled later in
2008.
