Dr
Bryce Barker
Bryce
is a Senior Lecturer in Anthropology and former Head of Department
at the University of Southern
Queensland. He completed a BA(Hons) and PhD at the University
of Queensland in the Department of Anthropology and Sociology.

His
teaching experience and interests encompass a broad range of topics,
including archaeology, Australian and world 'prehistory', cultural anthropology,
and Aboriginal studies. His research interests deal with regional issues
in Australian prehistory; the examination and formulation of theories
of change within society; pre-European, historic and contemporary Aboriginal
issues and Hunter-Gatherer studies. Dr Barker is currently on the Executive
of the Australian Archaeological Association as short reports Editor
for the Association journal Australian Archaeology and is a Fellow of
the Australian Anthropology Society.
Dr Bryce Barker has research interests in Australian
pre-European archaeology, hunter-gatherer studies, theory development
relating to change and contemporary indigenous issues relating to cultural
heritage and Native Title. Dr Barker has published widely in national
and international journals and edited volumes and is the author of "The
Sea People" Late Holocene Maritime Specialisation in the Whitsunday
Islands, Central Queensland, Terra Australis 20, Research School of
Asian and Pacific Studies, ANU, Pandanus Press Canberra. Current research
focuses on spatial and temporal stylistic change in Aboriginal rock
art on the central Queensland coastal region, a joint project with the
Giru Dala Council of Elders and funded by the Australian Institute of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATIS).
